F-2 Visa Overview
The F-2 visa is a non-immigrant visa designated for dependents of F-1 visa holders. The F-2 visa’s duration aligns with that of the principal F-1 visa holder. It is imperative to note that F-2 status is contingent upon the validity of the F-1 visa holder’s status. F-2 visas are issued to the spouse and unmarried children under twenty-one years old of the F-1 visa holder, considering them dependents.
F-2 holders are entitled to enter and remain in the United States for the duration of the F-1 holder’s authorized stay. The F-2 spouse and minor children of an F-1 student each receive an individual SEVIS Form I-20.
Employment for F-2 Holders
F-2 spouses and children are not eligible for employment.
Privileges of F-2 Visa Holders:
- F-2 holders can enter the country with their spouse or join them later.
- F-2 holders can travel in and out of the country or stay continuously within the US as long as they maintain valid status.
